Just through the gate on the right is an outcrop of flat rock with a garden wall built over it, the children of the local school, carved the images of a sun and a moon upon it after witnessing the school master R I Hebson who carved his own image on a rock built into the roadside wall at Whelter Cottage, known as the Mardale Medallion which depicts the benefactor of the High School at Measand, see Measand Grammar School link. |
